In modern practice, All Saints' Day commemorates not only all the martyrs but all the people of God, living and dead, who form the mystical body of Christ. The feast is, in effect, a feast of the church.'

ALWS Gifts of Grace:

Gifts of Grace packs are available from the table in the narthex.  Each pack contains a story book – “Iman and her Eggcellent idea”.  Iman is 13 and she lives in Ethiopia.  Ethiopia has the most Lutherans of any country in the world (12 million members in 10 000 congregations), there are non-Christian areas where girls like Iman are forced to be married when they are as young as 10.  In her book, Iman shares the challenges and hopes for her life.

Prayer Points for the Week:

• for the church, that it may remain faithful to the apostles' teaching

• for the unity of the Christian church on earth

• for all Christians, especially those under persecution, that they may imitate the martyrs in bold witness to the gospel

• for all who have dedicated their lives to serving Christ in others

• for the enemies of the church, and those who curse God's saints

• for peace between nations

• for those who are poor, those who are hungry, and those who mourn

• for those who are rich, those who have more than enough, and those who take life lightly

• thanks for those who have died in faith
